The Trifid Nebula, also known as M20, is a star-forming region about 5,000 light-years away in Sagittarius. It shows three types of nebulae: red emission nebulae, where hydrogen atoms glow; blue reflection nebulae, where dust reflects starlight; and dark nebulae, where dense dust clouds appear in silhouette.
