Salt, Pepper, and Ice

Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner is currently moving across the sky, just a bit too dim to see with the unaided eye. It has developed a long tail, making it a good sight for binoculars and sensitive cameras. This time-lapse video, compressing 90 minutes into about 2.5 seconds, shows the comet's movement. Its tail always points away from the Sun, not necessarily in the direction of the comet's movement.
