IC 59 and IC 63 in Cassiopeia

NASA APOD · Ken Crawford
COSMIC MESSAGE

These ghostly shapes are the reflection nebulae IC 59 and IC 63, located in Cassiopeia about 600 light-years away. They are slowly being eroded by intense radiation from the hot, bright star Gamma Cas, which sits just out of frame. The glowing rims and flowing forms show the effect of this energetic starlight on the surrounding gas and dust.
