COSMIC MESSAGE
Geminid meteors appear to radiate from the constellation Gemini in this composite image from Xinglong Observatory. These sand-sized bits of rock create bright streaks as they burn up in Earth's atmosphere. The parent body for the Geminids is the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, an unusual object that seems mostly dormant, posing a mystery for astronomers.
