This view was captured by the uncrewed Orion spacecraft as it approached the Moon in December 2022. The dark, smooth terrain is along the western edge of Oceanus Procellarum, the Ocean of Storms. This is the largest of the Moon's lava-flooded maria, and the shadow line between lunar night and day runs along the left of the frame.
