These towering pillars within the Eagle Nebula are nurseries for new stars. Captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, the image shows dense columns of molecular hydrogen gas and dust. Intense radiation from nearby young stars erodes the less dense material, leaving behind these dramatic structures where gravity continues to pull gas together to form new stars.
