Solar Minimum versus Solar Maximum
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Sun's surface is always changing, cycling between periods of quiet and activity. This video shows our Sun at solar minimum, with few sunspots, compared to solar maximum, when it is churning with many sunspots and frequent eruptions. This 11-year cycle is driven by the Sun's magnetic field. During solar maximum, the Sun also frequently throws off coronal mass ejections and flares.
