Aurora and Milky Way over Norway

NASA APOD · Giulio Cobianchi
COSMIC MESSAGE

The central band of our Milky Way Galaxy, a grand disk of stars and nebulae, appears to encircle the southern sky in this image. Below it, Mars glows with a rusty-orange hue, and the Andromeda galaxy is also visible. For a few minutes during this cold arctic night in Norway, a second giant arch, an aurora, appeared, encircling part of the northern sky.
