HFG1 & Abell 6: Planetary Nebulae

NASA APOD · Julien Cadena & Mickael Coulon; Text: Natalia Lewandowska (SUNY Oswego)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Planetary nebulae are the remnants of medium-sized stars, like our Sun, in their final stages. HFG1 and Abell 6, shown here in Cassiopeia, are two such examples. HFG1, in the bottom left, was created by the binary star system V664 Cas, where a white dwarf and a red giant orbit each other. These nebulae, despite their name, have no connection to planets.
