The Great Globular Cluster in Hercules

NASA APOD · Jan Beckmann, Julian Zoller, Lukas Eisert, Wolfgang Hummel
COSMIC MESSAGE

Edmond Halley noted M13 in 1716 as a "little Patch" visible to the naked eye. Today, it is recognized as the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules, one of the brightest globular star clusters in the northern sky. Sharp telescopic views reveal its hundreds of thousands of stars. Located 25,000 light-years away, the cluster's stars are densely packed within a 150 light-year region.
