COSMIC MESSAGE
The Dumbbell Nebula, also known as M27, is a planetary nebula, one of the brightest in the sky. This is what our Sun will become, a star that has shed its outer layers, leaving behind a white dwarf. Charles Messier discovered it in 1764, the 27th object on his list of diffuse objects not to be confused with comets. It sits about 1,000 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula.
