Mimas, one of Saturn's smallest moons, bears the immense Herschel crater. Whatever struck Mimas nearly destroyed it, with the impact spanning about 130 kilometers. Mimas's low gravity allows such a large surface feature to exist without tearing the moon apart. Sir William Herschel discovered Mimas in 1789.
