COSMIC MESSAGE
As a meteor passes through Earth's atmosphere, it heats up and sheds its outer layers. This creates the bright streak we see, along with dust from the vaporized rock and ice. Atmospheric winds quickly disperse this dust, leaving no visible trace after a few minutes. Much of this cosmic dust eventually settles onto Earth.
