Andromeda and Sprites over Australia

Two different worlds captured in one image over Australia. On the left is the Andromeda galaxy, a spiral galaxy similar to our own Milky Way, billions of years old and 2.5 million light-years away. On the right, a red sprite, a type of lightning that flashes above violent thunderstorms and lasts only a fraction of a second. The boab tree in the center grounds this cosmic and atmospheric display.
