This massive ball of stars, M3, predates our Sun and Earth. It is one of about 250 globular clusters that orbit the Milky Way today. M3 is one of the largest and brightest, containing about half a million stars, mostly old and red. It is easily visible with binoculars in the Northern Hemisphere.
