COSMIC MESSAGE
Saturn's rings are a spectacular sight, but the Hubble Space Telescope's STIS instrument also reveals ultraviolet aurora. These pole-encircling rings tower more than 1,000 miles above the cloud tops. Like Earth's aurora, they are caused by energetic charged particles from the solar wind funneled into the atmosphere.
