On August 27th, 1998, an intense burst of X-rays and gamma-rays from SGR 1900+14 swept through our solar system. Several interplanetary spacecraft, including Ulysses and WIND, recorded the powerful signal. The event was so strong it saturated detectors and triggered safety shutdowns on some instruments, indicating a magnetar flare.
