Europa: Ridges and Rafts on a Frozen Moon

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Europa, a large Jovian moon, may have liquid water beneath its frozen crust. Dramatic images from the Galileo spacecraft have fueled this idea. This color image combines low-resolution color data with higher-resolution mosaics from three flybys, covering about 120 by 150 miles. The terrain shows grooved linear ridges and crustal plates that appear to have broken apart and rafted into new positions.
