SGR 1900+14, indicated in this infrared image of the galactic center, is the strongest known magnet in the galaxy. It is believed to be a magnetar, a city-sized, spinning, super-magnetic neutron star. A magnetar's magnetic field can be a quadrillion Gauss, far stronger than Earth's magnetic field, which is about 1 Gauss.
