Galaxy Dwingeloo 1 Emerges
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Sometimes, nearby objects in our own galaxy can obscure distant ones. This image shows the spiral galaxy Dwingeloo 1, which was only discovered in 1994. Much of its light is hidden by the dust, gas, and bright stars of our own Milky Way. All the individually visible stars in this photograph are within our galaxy, while Dwingeloo 1 lies beyond them.
