A Polar Martian Dust Storm
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Mars Global Surveyor photographed a large dust storm erupting from Mars's north polar cap on August 29. The white material in the image is frozen carbon dioxide. As the polar cap thaws, temperature differences between the cold frost and recently thawed surface create these swirling dust storms.
