Leonids Over Korean Observatory

NASA APOD · O Chul Kwon (SoBaekSan National Observatory)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Leonid Meteor Shower peaks every year in November. In 2001, the shower had two peaks, with the second one being more intense and visible from Asia. This photo captures the second peak over the SoBaekSan National Observatory in Korea, with numerous meteors visible in the predawn sky. These streaks of light are caused by small particles of dust from Comet Tempel-Tuttle burning up in Earth's atmosphere.
