The Local Bubble and the Galactic Neighborhood

NASA APOD · Linda Huff (American Scientist), Priscilla Frisch (U. Chicago)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Our Sun is inside a low-density region of interstellar gas called the Local Bubble. This map shows the bubble and its surroundings out to 1,500 light-years. The Sun is currently passing through a violet cloud, which flows from the Scorpius-Centaurus Association of young stars. This region is a sparse part of our Milky Way Galaxy.
