COSMIC MESSAGE
Fifteen years ago today, the brightest supernova of modern times was sighted. Astronomers have watched the expanding debris from this tremendous stellar explosion crash into previously expelled material. The Hubble Space Telescope captured this collision in two frames, one in 1994 and another in 1997. While the central stellar debris evolved, the yellow spot on the ring in the right frame shows where the expanding shockwave hit the ring.
