The Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico consists of 27 radio telescopes, each the size of a house. These telescopes can be moved on train tracks to form different configurations. The VLA has been instrumental in discoveries like water on Mercury and radio-bright coronae around stars. It has been in operation for over two decades.
