Fullerenes as Miniature Cosmic Time Capsules

NASA APOD · Keith Beardmore (LANL)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Scientists found fullerenes, also called buckyballs, inside an ancient meteorite that fell to Earth thirty years ago. These fullerenes contained trapped molecules, acting like miniature time capsules from billions of years ago. The discovery was made by Luann Becker and her collaborators, who found these extraterrestrial fullerenes were not empty inside.
