Palomar 13's Last Stand

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Palomar 13 is a small, faint globular cluster of stars that has orbited the Milky Way for 12 billion years. This image shows it just left of center, a sparse collection of stars. Its highly eccentric orbit brings it close to the galactic center every billion years or so. Each pass strips away some stars, so Palomar 13 is slowly disappearing.
