NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 2440 is a planetary nebula containing one of the hottest known white dwarf stars. The central white dwarf, visible as a bright dot, is the remnant of a star that has shed its outer layers. This ejected shell of gas, the nebula, expands into space like a cosmic cocoon.
