COSMIC MESSAGE

On May 5, 2004, astronomer Jimmy Westlake observed Comet NEAT in the western sky after sunset. This three-minute exposure captures the comet as a fuzzy greenish smudge. The image also shows the Colorado Rocky Mountains and the bright star Sirius. Comet NEAT, a visitor from the outer solar system, was visible to the unaided eye during this period.
