Globular Cluster M22 from CFHT
NASA APOD · Jean-Charles Cuillandre
COSMIC MESSAGE
M22 is a globular cluster containing over 100,000 stars, all gravitationally bound and orbiting the cluster's center. This cluster, like about 140 others, orbits the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. These clusters are distributed in a roughly spherical halo around the Galactic center, a fact that helped astronomers determine our Sun is not at the galaxy's core. This image was captured by the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope.
