COSMIC MESSAGE

The Cocoon Nebula, cataloged as IC 5146, is a beautiful nebula about 4,000 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. Inside the Cocoon Nebula is a newly developing open cluster of stars. Like other stellar nurseries, it contains a bright red emission nebula, blue reflection nebulae, and dark absorption nebulae. Different mixtures of these processes create a variety of colors.
