Massive Stars in NGC 6357

NASA APOD · Panther Observatory
COSMIC MESSAGE

Massive stars reside within NGC 6357, an expansive emission nebula complex in the constellation Scorpius. The star cluster Pismis 24, located just below the center in this close-up, contains some of the most massive stars known, over 100 times the Sun's mass. The nebula's bright central region also has dusty pillars of molecular gas, likely hiding massive protostars from optical view.
