HR 8799: Discovery of a Multi-planet Star System
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
In the twelve years leading up to 2008, over 300 candidate planetary systems were found, but few showed evidence for multiple planets or were directly imaged. This image of HR 8799 shows one of the first confirmed images of multiple planets orbiting a distant star. It gives us a glimpse into the variety of planetary systems beyond our own.
