At the Center of the Milky Way
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
At the heart of our Milky Way Galaxy is a supermassive black hole. This conclusion is based on 16 years of observations mapping the orbits of 28 stars very near the galactic center. Using European Southern Observatory telescopes and near-infrared cameras, astronomers tracked one star, S2, through a complete orbit as it came within about one light-day of the center.
