COSMIC MESSAGE
Y Canum Venaticorum, also known as La Superba, is a rare and very red star in the constellation Canes Venatici. Located 710 light-years away, its remarkable spectrum led 19th-century astronomer Angelo Secchi to give it its name. The star varies in brightness over about half a year, becoming just visible to the unaided eye at its peak. Its beautiful red hue is easily seen with binoculars.
