In the Shadow of Saturn

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Cassini spacecraft captured an unexpected view from Saturn's shadow. For about 12 hours, Cassini looked back toward the eclipsed Sun, revealing the planet's night side partly lit by light from its rings. The rings themselves appear dark when seen against Saturn, but bright when scattering sunlight away from the planet. This unique perspective highlights the complex interactions of light in the Saturnian system.
