Fermi's Gamma-ray Pulsars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Pulsars are spinning neutron stars, the collapsed cores left after massive stars explode as supernovae. The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has detected two dozen pulsars at extreme gamma-ray energies. Sixteen of these were identified solely by their pulsed gamma-ray emission. This gamma-ray all-sky map shows the pulsars aligned with the plane of our Milky Way Galaxy.
