COSMIC MESSAGE
This image shows a cataclysmic variable star system, where a large star is losing gas to a white dwarf. The gas forms an accretion disk around the white dwarf. Sometimes, this system can erupt in a dwarf nova, a sudden brightening caused by a clump of gas heating up and falling onto the white dwarf.
