Water has been discovered on the Moon, hidden in a permanently shadowed crater near the South Pole. The LCROSS mission intentionally crashed an impactor into the crater, creating a plume of dust. Preliminary chemical analysis of that plume, shown here in visible light, confirmed the presence of water.
