Leonid over Mono Lake

NASA APOD · Tony Rowell
COSMIC MESSAGE

In the frigid predawn sky above Mono Lake, California, a Leonid meteor streaks past the ghostly tufa towers. These limestone formations rise from the salty, mineral-laden lake, creating an otherworldly foreground. The bright star Arcturus is visible to the right of the meteor, near the peak of the annual shower.
