NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Suspended by magnetic fields above an active region, this dark filament stretches over 40 Earth diameters across the Sun. The Solar Dynamics Observatory captured this detailed scene in extreme ultraviolet light. While the cooler plasma of the filament appears dark, hotter, brighter plasma below traces the magnetic field lines emerging from the active region.
