M82: Galaxy with a Supergalactic Wind

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Cigar Galaxy, M82, is lit up by a 'supergalactic wind' of gas. This red-glowing gas, seen here in the light of ionized hydrogen, is being driven out by the combined particle winds of many stars. A close pass near the large spiral galaxy M81 stirred up M82, contributing to this phenomenon.
