MESSENGER, the MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging spacecraft, completed its first solar day in orbit around Mercury. During this time, it imaged nearly the entire surface of the innermost planet. This allowed scientists to create a global monochrome map and a color map of Mercury's surface.
