Scorpius in Red and Blue

COSMIC MESSAGE
Cosmic dust clouds often reflect the light of nearby stars. Since hot, bright stars radiate strongly in blue light, and interstellar dust scatters blue light more effectively than red, these reflection nebulae appear blue. This image from the head of Scorpius shows wispy blue clouds near bright stars like Pi and Delta Scorpii. These celestial structures reveal the intricate interplay of starlight and interstellar matter.
