Looking Back at an Eclipsed Earth

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

From space, an annular eclipse makes a dark circle on Earth. That dark spot is the Moon's shadow, racing across the planet at nearly 2,000 kilometers per hour. This image was taken by the Japanese MTSAT satellite, which keeps watch on weather and aviation for much of Asia and the Pacific. People inside the shadow see the Moon blocking part of the Sun.
