NGC 7293: The Helix Nebula

COSMIC MESSAGE

The Helix Nebula, also known as NGC 7293, is a dying sun-like star located only 700 light-years away in the constellation Aquarius. This planetary nebula is a well-studied example of the final phase of stellar evolution. This deep view, created from 58 hours of exposure, highlights hydrogen atoms in red and oxygen atoms in blue-green hues. The nebula's structure formed over its last few thousand years.
