The Dark Tower in Scorpius
NASA APOD · Don Goldman
COSMIC MESSAGE
This dark tower is a cometary globule, a type of dark nebula shaped by intense ultraviolet radiation from nearby hot stars. Located in Scorpius, it spans almost 40 light-years. Clumps of dust and molecular gas within the tower may be collapsing to form new stars, hidden from our view by the dense material.
