The Red Rectangle Nebula, imaged by Hubble, has an unusual shape. An aging binary star system at its center powers the nebula, but its colors are still a mystery. The nebula's distinct rungs suggest the outflow of material occurs in fits and starts. Its X-shape is likely due to a thick dust torus pinching the outflow into cone shapes.
