The Large Magellanic Cloud is a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way, about 160,000 light-years away in the constellation Dorado. It is an irregular galaxy, a common type of small galaxy. This image shows its bright star-forming regions and dusty lanes, visible from the Southern Hemisphere.
