M45: The Pleiades Star Cluster

NASA APOD · Roberto Colombari
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Pleiades, or M45, is one of the most famous star clusters in the sky. While its bright stars are easy to see, a long exposure like this one reveals the dust cloud surrounding them. This 20-minute exposure shows the cluster embedded in a nebulosity that spans several times the full moon's size.
